Can't empty bin

I deleted my bin by accident so I copy and pasted it back but now it doesn't empty and shows as full all the time even though I have clicked on it to delete all contents in bin.  Please can someone let me know what I need to do to resotore it!

Control Panel > Appearance & Personalisation > Personalisation.

Then top left, click "change desktop icons" > make sure recycle bin is checked.

Please tell me that it isn't that easy beachbum?

That's all you have to do...I deleted my icon 6 months ago. I read somewhere and they were talking about going into the registry and changing values, so I just left the shortcut on the desktop.

I laugh that I (and my son) are not the only ones to delete the recycle bin.

I mean when you are used to right clicking and hitting delete on everything it's just natural to right click on recycle bin and click DELETE and there goes the icon.

But it's that easy to get back. My oh my....

That was for XP, I had the same problem, and the first thing I remembered was the registry fix for XP. So I did it. When checking some desktop properties, I noticed that option. :smileyvery-happy:

Yeah lol....it is that easy....yep I deleted my recycle bin not long after getting this machine hehehehe.

Though my recycle bin is back it doesnt animate like it did before. Is quite strange really, if the bin is empty and I delete something, the icon stays as empty. Yet if I reboot or even if screensave kicks in then goes off.....THEN the full icon shows.

But it's back & does the job lol....

Cheers & Merry Xmas :smileyvery-happy:

In the same window that you "Change Icons," you can select the icon for Full and Empty. Just highlight each icon and select Change Icon or just select Restore Default.

I have experienced the same problem. I wonder how you restore the bin to its original function. Possibly someone out there knows how reanimate the bin.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk!!!!!

Not something I really wanna try (dont consider myself experienced enough)....will leave my recycle bin as is.......it works lol

Thanks anyways

I will try it the registry fix. I have messed with the reg before and have been lucky so far. Funny thing is that the only problems I have had where I had to change registry values to fix something was under XP.....weird....I thought it was perfect.

I remember having to change registry keys as XP had a problem when you'd do a disk cleanup and it would freeze on COMPRESS OLD FILES and it would just sit there. SO I changed the registry to no longer do that and disk cleanup worked like a charm.

On XP had problems with Windows Update as it would just sit saying "searching for files." Had something to do with the Update files not being registered, so I changed a few things and that works fine.

Ok, this is weird.

I checked the box to make my icon reappear.  It wouldn't animate.  Deleted files and icon just showed full, emptied it, just showed full.  So I thought what the heck, I'll do the registry fix.

I deleted a couple more files, then I emptied recycle bin and  the icon emptied.

I have no idea why it started working, but I won't complain.  Maybe it knew I was going to mess with the registry and decided it would be better to work on it's own rather than let me mess with it....:smileyvery-happy:
