Can't get Dell PC Diagnostics to run

System details: Dell Inspiron 15R (non-touch) less than 3 months old; Windows 8, 64-bit; intelcore i3-3227u 1.90 Ghz, 6 GB ram, 450 GB hd; software added to install: Bitdefender Internet Security 2013, Office 2013, Chrome (28.0.1500.72 m), Trillian, ICQ, PDF-Viewer, IE 10, Brother printer utilities.

Having problems with a graphics accelerator blue screen and tried to run Dell's online PC Diagnostics (by PC-Doctor) to try to diagnose the problem, but can't get it to run. Select type of scan (have tried all), accept license agreement, click "yes" to run Dell System Detect and BOOM, get super random and vague error: "A problem has been detected , please try again" (extra space before comma Dell's typo).

Have tried this via Chrome and IE. Have tried this after disabling antivirus and firewall. Nada.

Any suggestions?

In case it helps, the original problem is a blue screen within the last few weeks, saying something along the lines of "Intel graphics accelerator display drivers for Windows 8 (R) stopped responding and has recovered," which freezes the laptop, requiring a hard reboot. It seems to happen fairly regularly now, often when I'm midway through working on a Word document with a bunch of Chrome tabs open and Bitdefender, Brother utilities and Trillian running in the background.

Thanks for any input!

Hi Elijah,

Thanks for your reply. No, I haven't updated the Intel Chipset and/or Video drivers yet because I want to run the Dell PC Diagnostics first, but it keeps error-ing out, as described above. Do you have any suggestions for how I could get that to work?

Thanks again,

Eliza

I didn't get the option to right click the Dell System Detect .exe file and run as admin because there was no "save as" or "run" option. It just started running as soon as I selected which test I wanted to run and agreed to the legal caveat. That didn't end up being a big problem, though, because after I reset my IE settings, the Dell PC Diagnostics worked. Thank you for your help. I'll mark this as resolved and create a new post dedicated to the video card issue.

Thanks!

FYI, I moved the original video card issue to this new post: en.community.dell.com/.../20417659.aspx

Thanks again!

Hello,

I had the same problem and I solved it following your advise above -> right click the .exe file and run as administrator.
BUT my user have administrators privilege and I didn't have this problem before activating System Restore.

Please, give me a hint or links to solve this disturbing problem, as soon as you can.

Thank you.

I have tried these suggestions and I am still getting:

"A problem has been detected , please try again"

This is very frustrating.
