Can't install acumulative security update IE6 SP1

It's been over a month now that I received from the Windows Update page an update for IE6 SP1 but EVERYTIME I try to install it I get a message saying it could not be installed (the message is in Spanish since I am in Mexico so I may not be translating it exactly as it should be):

The following update could not be installed on you computer:

Acumulative security update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB834707).

I have written to Microsoft support here in Mexico but have had no luck installing the update. Also, this is blocking newer updates from installing on my computer:mansad:.

I have a Dimension 8200 with Windows XP installed OEM back in 2002.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I went back and downloaded the 834707 to install it on mu PC but I got the following message (please remember that I am translating from Spanish so I may get a word or 2 wrong):

The instalation program could not prove the integrity of the Update.inf file. Please be sure that the coding (or code) service is running on your PC.

Please Help.

Do you have (XP) SP2 installed ? Appears not.

If you can't get this worked out, set a restore point (System Restore) and download/install this file then restart computer. If it causes problems you *should* be able to uninstall it from Add|Remove. Then go to WindowsUpdate site and see if 834707 is still listed.

Note Bene:  I would wait a while to see if you get a more definite answer.

Thanks for your suggestion but I for one would rather wait a while before installing SP2 on my computer.

Going back to the IE6 Service Pack 1 instalation; I was recommended by Microsoft to be sure if the coding service was applied..it isn't. Instead I got this message:

"The coding service could not be iniciated on local PC Error 193:0xc1"

Please help.

This was the IE (update) rollup I thought you might try. Then see if the windowsupdate site says you still need 834707.

Did you get that error message from the Event Viewer ? If not, look at the Event Viewer.

Download and run (from a prompt) this MS utility before you go any further.

Not sure what service(s) the message relates to, possibly Cryptographic. Set your service settings to XP SP1 defaults. (Note: This is for SP2 so choose the "Safe" setting on services that have an * beside it.)

This is a registry fix for the Cryptographic service if you conclude at some point that service may not be registered properly.

To see what services are actually running, enter this command (at a prompt):

net start

Neither KB834707 nor KB873377 worked I still get the update.inf error message.

I also downloaded the Error 195: 0cx1 fix that you suggested but I got this message back:

"C:WINDOWS\System32\RESUTILS:DLL is not a valid Windows image. Prove this against your installation disk"

Now what? Does this mean I have to format my hard disk?

HEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!:smileymad:
