Can't open videos

Hi, am using a home computer - Inspiron 1501. No idea why but I can't seem to view videos from common websites like music.yahoo.com? The video just doesn't open. However, I can view videos on youtube. Why is this so, and most importantly how do I rectify this problem, please? Help is much appreciated !
