Cant remove read only attribute

Question

I am trying to copy some pics to and external hard drive but I can not remove the read only attribute of the folder.  I have tried removing the read only attribute of the folder in my documents. I have tried removing the read only attribute from my documents. I remove the attribute but as soon as check propterties it reappears as read only. Any suggestions. This is on a Dim 3000 with Windows XP SP2 Home edition.

Folders are always read only.  You cannot write to a folder, you can only move files into or out of a folder, thus you can never change the attributes of a folder, you can only change the attributes of files that are contained within folders.   Steve
