Can't rename JPEG when saving image to folder?
When trying to save an image (JPEG) from a web page into a designated folder, I am unable to rename the image when saving (an icon appears, like the one you get when there is a program needed to open a file, but there isn't one on the computer) If I just click save and then open the folder where it was saved I can then rename the image. Why can't I rename it at the time of saving? I've been able to to so before? I've cleared the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" check box, and hit the delete files button under Temporary Internet files. I've also deleted the files in the Downloaded Program Files folder that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. But I still can't rename a JPEG image when saving?

Dawg: You cannot simply change an extension through rename and think it will work.
I think what you are encountering is a 'bug' in IE that started a couple versions ago. In IE, you will need to delete files in your Temporary folder via, Tools – Internet Options – Temporary Internet files, Delete.
IE reaches a point where all graphics can only be saved as Bitmaps. Clearing this will allow you to save as JPG again.
As far as renaming, do not include an extension.

I don't have any problems: right click on the picture in IE, click save picture as; in the save as box that opens, delete the file name, type in a new one (without extension); leave the entry in the save as type to read JPEG (*.jpg); if the save as window is not open at the folder you want, navigate to the desired location in the usual way; click save. I can then go into Windows Explorer and open the file (I use Paintshop pro as my default app) or right click, preview (uses XP Windows picture and fax viewer). The picture I tried is this one (not that I'm a tennis fan...)

Don't know why that does not work for you...
