Can't shut down or restart XP

Question

My computer can't shut down or restart by the normal way and it needs to shut down by pressing power button instead. This happened since the Mcafee virus scan couldn't work because of missing of some components. I have tried to use system restore to recover it but this function can't recover any restore points at all. Moreover, the window have become crash oftenly. What should I do to fix this problem? Do I need to reinstall my window? Or I still have any alternative way to correct this problem. Thanks for your suggestion

Try running a Windows system file check:
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click ok

sfc will replace any missing/damaged XP system files. Insert XP CD if sfc requests it. Reboot when it's done.

You may also have uninstall and reinstall McAfee.

Another thing you might try if you think it's McAfee is using Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the task manager and look for a McAfee entry. If found, high-lite it and 'End Process' and see if you can restart. Another thing is use Windows Explorer and go down the tree to the C:\Windows\System32 folder and find shutdown.exe and see if you can shutdown from that.
