CD Insertion Window

Dell Dimension 8300 4GB RAM, Windows XP Pro (OEM), etc.

After inserting a CD or DVD a window opens to ask what do you want to do, i.e. Play Audio CD, Rip Music CD, Open DVD, etc. Some of the applications in that window are not installed on my computer, i.e. MusicBox, Real, etc. My question: Can the application names be removed from that window? If so, how is it done?

Thank you.

Removing unwanted AutoPlay Handlers in Windows XP:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/autoplayhandlers.htm

September 9th, 2006 09:00

I downloaded CleanHandlers v2.2 and installed it. I ran it and it doesn't show/list Play Audio CD using MusicMatch Jukebox or Play Audio CD using RealOne Player. Also, I checked the reistry where indicated but neither MusicMatch or RealOne are listed in Handlers or Events.

Both these events are still listed in the Handler Window when a CD is inserted.

Is there something I'm missing? Is there a different procedure to delete the Non Existing Handlers from the Handler Window?

Also, I have downloaded may other 'Autoplayer Handler' repair applications, none have listed Play CD using RealOne Player, Play CD using MusicMatch Jukebox, or Play DVD using RealOne Player. All three are offered as a choice when inserting CD/DVD.

Help, please.

Anyone know where/what registry keys that would remove, 'MusicMatch Jukebox or RealOne Player' for CD and 'RealOne Player' for DVD, from the Autoplay Handlers windows?

RealOne and MusicMatch software are not on my computer. So, I suspect there are registry keys (entries) that causing their players to be listed in the 'Autoplay Handlers' window.

Thank you.

The registry location is given in the link Ramesh provided. They are subkeys under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers

On my system (Real player 10.5), the real player handler keys are named

RPCDBurningOnArrival
RPPlayCDAudioOnArrival
RPPlayDVDMovieOnArrival
RPPlayMediaOnArrival

I don't have musicmatch Jukebox. If you click on a handler key, you can see in the right pane what program it points to.

Or simply search your registry for realplay.exe, and delete the related keys. Ditto for music match.

Thanks Rosenfeld!

@ Blacklion213: I've downloaded the latest version of MusicMatch in order to repro the problem. I'll research further and post back to this thread.

Here are the entries for MusicMatch Jukebox. The entry names start with letters MMJB

Well, I finally accomplished the deed.

First, I backed up the Registry.

Secondly, for what ever reason CleanHandlers never did list the RealOne or MusicMatch entries.

I went to the appropriate Registry Keys. Under Handlers I removed the RP et al keys and the  MMJB et all keys. It did remove the entries for RealOne and MusicMatch in the CD/DVD Insertion Window, but left remnants, i.e. {}|> using {<>}. So, I wnet back to the Registry and looked for more RP and MMJB entries. Under Eventhandlers I found more keys referencing RP and MMJB. I removed those keys and all the RealOne, MusiMatch, and remnants are removed from the CD/DVD Insertion Window.

Thank you for helping me out with this task. I would have had to live with those unused/unsightly entries in the Insertion Window. Again, thanks a lot.

Glad you solved it. My apologies for failing to point out that after deleting a handler one should also remove its entry in the right pane in the relevant event handler. But you found that out for yourself :-).

From his above reply, I gather that Ramesh has updated CleanHandlers as well, so that will help future users..

After re-booting five or six times I deleted the registry backup file. Dumb, duh, oops and all that. I SHUTDOWN and did some chores and returned then started the computer. After it got to the desktop all heck started.

First, the computer ran very slooooooooooooooooooooow during all the evolutions I am going to explain.

Second, on the desktop there was two files, autoplay-repair.txt and autoplay repair application (I did not know such an app existed).

Third, the autoplay window did not work.

Fourth, I attempted to repair the autoplay using the autoplay repair application. Didn't work.

Fifth, what I needed was the saved registry backup file I created earlier.

Sixth, I restored a registry file I had created using RegSupreme Pro last night after some system maintenance.

Seven, re-booted.

Eight, now the computer is running normally (speed). I checked the autoplay by putting a CD and DVD is both the DVD-ROM and the DVD +/- RW CD -R/RW drive. All works great AND the entries that I wanted removed in the Autoplay Window were still removed.

I don't get why all this happened except maybe when I removed the 'Handlers' and 'Events' keys the registry had a conflict and produced all the problems.

I ask would I do this again even after all the heart stopping drama....... yes. Thanks again, you guys are fantastic.
