Certificate of Authenticity

Question

Turned on my PC today and got a message that my Windows needed to be activated.  The window would not show zero when pressed.  Tried to call and was told that the error was with the seller of the PC.  Also said the Product ID should be five groups of #'s.  Mine is not.  Then recorded message on help line said I should contact Dell.  What should I do?

If it's a Dell OEM copy of windows, in a Dell system, then contact Dell.

'   Who did you call? Microsoft. Try the KB Article above that might be the issue, The Dell should never ask to be activated.   ' Also said the Product ID should be five groups of #'s.  Mine is not. '   The Product ID is not Five Groups of numbers. The PID is  XXXXX - OEM - XXXXXXX - XXXXX.   The CD Key is 5 groups of 5 alphanumeric characters XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX.   pcgeek11
