change default view for folders

I would like the default view for all folders I open (when using Windows Explorer or My Computer) to be "list."  Instead, I always get everything displayed as large icons.  I then have to manually (at each level of the filing system)go to view > list.  How can I change the default?  Thanks for any help you can give.

Open Explorer, set the view of any folder to what you want, then go to Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to All Folders. Be sure to check Remember each folder's settings so that some folders (pictures etc.) will appear in thumbnails.
