chkdsk problem
Dimension 2350 windows xp
I have had problems with trying to remove a couple of programs. Wanted to check registry but have not. I thought maybe chkdsk could solve some of my problems hopefully. But it only read about 4 inches and disappeared. At the top before it begin it said, "Warning F parameter not specified running chkdsk in read mode only." I tried it several times. What does this mean?
I looked into Knowledge Base. They said I could disable the Santa Cruz video card and then run chkdsk without incident. But I don't have a Santa Cruz video card. Can you help me? Thanks

To correct errors on your hard disk you need to run chkdsk with the /f switch. To do this, go to Start|Run, type chkdsk /f (note the space before "/f") and click OK. You will be advised that the program cannot be run because the volume is locked and asked if you would like to run it on the next startup. Type Y and press . When you boot Windows the next time, it will advise you that chkdsk will be run in __ seconds if you don't prevent it. Let it go ahead and run. It will then correct any errors on your disk.
To see the results of running chkdsk in read-only mode, which is what you did, rather than typing chkdsk at Start|Run, go to Start|Run, type cmd and click OK. At the command prompt that appears, type chkdsk and press . When chkdsk finished, it will display its results on the screen (and not simply disappear as it did when you ran it).
Having said that, it is not likely that this will correct the problem you are having uninstalling programs. If you would identify the programs you cannot uninstall and what error messages (if any) you receive when you try to uninstall them, someone will probably be able to provide additional helpful information.

It appears that you do not. The critical item in that report is 0 KB in bad sectors.

Thank you so much. I have been reading the forum and you have helped many people. I didn't think this was fixable. Show you what I know.
Thank again Annie
