Cineplayer will not open

I have recently purchased a Dell Dimension 3100C a couple of months ago. I was watching quite a lot of DVDs on it using the Cineplayer programme but then I went to use it yesturday and it would not work. When i click Cineplayer in the start menu it brings up the loading screen (which has the Cineplayer written on) as it should but then the loading screen closes as if the programme is about to start but then it doesn't start. I checked to see what was going on in the processes list of task manager, here i could see that the DMX.exe process started when the loading screen came up then it stops when the loading screen disappears. I then tried to watch films in Windows media player 10 but then it said i did not have the correct codecs.

Would re-installing Cineplayer work? if so, where can i find the installer?
Or is ther a way to fix this without using a CD?

Try the System Restore feature and restore the PC to an earlier date/time when it did work. That may correct the problem.

You can access System Restore from Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools

yeah i tried that....apparently it doesnt go back far enough to sort it. I went back to the earlist one i could and but that was only like a week ago. I think i'll have to increase the disk space allowed for those. Is ther any other way you think I could solve this?

No, other than reloading the program.

Have you looked in the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs for Cine Player ,to see if it offers you a repair option ? Many Apps will ask if you want to remove this app or repair ? Just a thought ,I'm no PC tech ,however I had a problem with my TV Wonder on my other PC a P3 750MHz running Windows Me, my TV Wonder USB Edition would not get any picture on the screen ,when I opened the Control Panel and clicked on uninstall it offered me a repair option ,I was pleasantly pleased when picking the repair option fixed whatever was causing the application not to allow me to view TV on my desktop ?  Hope you have the same out come ,I know in WinXP trying to uninstall Internet Explorer will give you the repair option ,however I cant promise you it will with Cine player ?
            Good Luck ,Nick

I didn't see any Cineplayer software on the Dell download site for the 3100C.

You do have the CTRL/F11 option at boot up to restore the PC to the original power up condition if you haven't deleted the restore partition or you have the option of getting another DVD player.  The Windows Media Player 11 (free download) will play DVD's.

The back-up media for Cineplayer and the decoder apparently have to be requested from Dell as they don't ship them with the PC anymore. I had a similar problem with Cineplayer opening, going to a black screen, then going back to the start-up menu. Media Player and Media Center were also affected. Happened when Cineplayer opened a DVD I'd put in the tray. System restore doesn't bring it back and seems to cause more problems. Symantac's PC restore might (if you haven't removed Ghost, which it seems to be attached to, and which I did believing that 'Replace My PC' would serve my back up needs, (which  incidentlally it doesn't because it requires a floppy drive to create 'disaster recovery' diskettes. What year is this again?)). I have ended up reinstalling XP but there seems to be no decoders on the resource CD. Have requested them from Dell tech support though I might go elsewhere.  The irony of this is I never set Cineplayer as the default player.

I agree. Having re-installed XP after my problems with Cineplayer I ordered the Roxio back up software from Dell (who I have to say fell over themselves to help me). Reading the packing list after I contacted them I discovered the entry for PowerDVD  which I'd completely forgotton about. So I contacted them again and asked them to supply the back-up software for that as well. I received and loaded up PowerDVD this morning and can play DVD's once more, which obviously means that it is the dvd decoder supplied with this program  that also allows Media Center and Media Player to play DVD's (I think PowerDVD is one of a couple of programs that Dell uses to provide decoder software for their PC's). I haven't re-installed the Roxio software.
