CinePlayer/DMX Update Patch

Last week, received usual InstallSheild Update Manager auto update message. Update was associated with DELL Media Experience/CinePlayer.

Update Name: CinePlayer/DMX Update Patch, program size: 10.11MB.

Clicked on Download rather than Install button, but when I went to Downloaded Program Updates\Update Manager folder, there was no sign of this 10.11MB download, even looked in Sonic\Update Manager?

Opened Update Manager from Control Panel & selected Check for Updates, tried Install button this time.

After installation received two messages:

“This Update is not designed for the application version currently installed”, a very strange message AFTER being asked to install?

Then “InstallSheild Update Manager has successfully downloaded & installed the selected update. What….?

Again looked in relevant folders & didn’t see any changes? Presumably because nothing was updated I’m now getting reminder prompts from InstallSheild Update Manager.

Anyone else having this problem, any suggestions? Thanks.

XPS 600, WXP Pro SP2

I have had exactly the same problem but I did not try to install the update/patch, only to download it. I attempted the download several times and each time a dialogue appeared, which said that Update Manager had successfully downloaded the selected update but the link to the Downloaded Program Updates folder would not work. Looking in the folder I could not find the update.

I will have to hide the update message as Update Manager continues to nag about it.

I am going to post my query on the Dell Media Experience Forum in the hope of getting some help with this update.

Since my last posted reply I ran Dell Media Experience and the Sonic Update Manager (also powered by InstallShield) appeared. Clicking Updates brought a message saying that there were "no updates available for this computer". I can only assume that the original Update/Patch from Update Manager was not in fact correct for my PC or version of DMX.

Thanks for the reply, that was my initial thought but still not sure? I know software manufacturers use InstallShield to provide auto updates so assumed (like windows) it first checks required update(s), maybe not?

Obtained DMX update v 3.0.1 when I first opened the application & Cyberlink web site only shows v 2.2 for download. Then assumed the ongoing registration problem may be causing further upgrade problem (DELL-ChrisM sticky post doesn’t resolve/fix em address registration problem).

Interestingly when I tried download/install again, obtained usual ZAP firewall security prompt, here it indicated Cine Player 30 Update was trying to launch Setup.exe from a particular folder path, but when I checked the folder path it didn’t exist?

Odd since I found a similar folder name that contains 16 files associated with PowerDVD, Sonic etc..? Very strange it’s as if Cine Player 30 Update was trying to launch required Setup.exe from the wrong folder location?

When time allows I’ll need to check details of these 16 files.

Thanks for your further information. Like you, I assumed the update manager checked for updates relevant to my PC and version of the application. My version of DMX is 3.0.1 Build No 307B08A but it says it from Sonic Solutions not Cyberlink. However the Sonic website only has support articles for the Deluxe version, which I have not upgraded to.

I did not register my version of DMX, as the Privacy Statement seemed to be saying that my email address might be passed on to other companies. I get enough junk email as it is, so did not like this idea! Where can I find DELL-Chris M sticky post?

I do not have Zone Alarm Firewall as I have a wireless router, which contains its own firewall but usually Norton warns me if any suspect .exe files are trying to run - that hasn't happened but I only tried to download and not to install the update.

Either no one else has had this problem or they've just decided to ignore the update.

I'm really not sure just how useful DMX will be. It seems to work through Windows Media Player for organising audio files, playlists, etc. and I have Paint Shop Photo Album for organising my photos and creating VCDs.

Agree it’s not a major problem, just a strange situation.

For the ChrisM post click here (DMX FAQ section) tried the @ key & the Shift + F2 (found it’s Shift + 2, not F2) but it still doesn’t work?

Thanks for link. Unless someone posts a solution, I'm going to ignore the update/patch and hope that doesn't cause problems.

I have the same problem but you can't ignore it. My machine has downloaded that 10MB update at least twelve times!  I don't know how to turn it off.  Also, it may not matter now but there may come a time soon that CinePlayer will cease to function  without an update maybe after the Windows security update.
Has anyone tried purchasing CinePlayer from source and installing that?
I have talked to Dell but they have no advice.
I also have the ongoing problem with the Audigy soundcard CMBTHA.dll error.  I thought perhaps they were linked because they may both relate to licencing problems, anyone else with both these problems?

I haven't had any problems so far since setting this update to Ignore within the Update Manager. Before doing this I discovered the update had been downloaded to my Temp directory. I tried installing it from there but received exactly the same message that the update was not comatible with my computer or version of the program. I am assuming from the fact that, when I ran the program it said there were no updates available, this is correct. I hope it continues to work!

It is strange that no one else has reported this problem. I can't think we are the only ones it has happened to.

Have same problem - Update Manager regularly informs me that Cine player/DMX update
(10.11 MB) is available for download. When I download and try to install it tells me the update is not suitable for the version I have .
