Classic Solitare

I am not able to run Classic Solitare.  I don't know why, the only

thing I did different is install Norton SystemWorks 2004.  All other

games work fine.  I even tried reinstalling Windows ME to no

avail.  Any suggestions.

Can you not run Solitaire at all or can you just not run it from the shortcut on the start menu? If the latter, your problem may be a broken shortcut. If you can run the program by clicking on the Solitaire exe program in the Windows directory (I got a "profanity not tolerated" -- now how ridiculous is that?-- when I typed in the actual name of the program file, but it's the one with the little picture of the deck of cards), you can create a new shortcut and be back in business.

As an aside, has political correctness run completely amok on the forums now???

I can open Solitare either from the shortcut or the actual file

but when I open the game all I have showing is the Solitare

screen and four odd colored cards.  The only active controls

are the exit and the about buttons, nothing else will open.  I

cannot deal, select options or access the help menu.

That sounds like the file itself (it should be 168 kb.) is corrupted or its .ini file. You might try looking at the 1 kb. .ini file first. If the .ini file is the problem, you could probably modify or delete it and let it create a new one.

As an example, mine reads:

[Solitaire]
Back=6

If the file itself is corrupted, you might try uninstalling it from your setup and then reinstalling it. (Go to Control Panel/Add or Remove programs/Windows Setup/Games.) Uninstall it by unchecking Classic Solitaire. You'll probably have to re-boot. Then do again and re-check the Solitaire game to reinstall it, then reboot again.

I finally found my solution to my Classic Solitaire problem.  It was a conflict with a part of Quarterdeck/Norton CleanSweep, CSinject.exe.  When I went to the msconfig and unchecked CSinject.exe and rebooted I was able to run Classic Soltiare as usual.

Thanks for everybodies suggestions, it was really appreciated.
