In the DELL Dimension OWNER's MANUAL..its starts on PAGE-65/
You first must COPY all your important FILES to a CD or a DVD Disk....when you can safely SHUT-off your PC..
....dis-connect all the peripherals....Pull everything.....except the Keyboard and Mouse and MONITOR....
Then its a matter of Re-Starting your PC....with the OS-CD provided by DELL or purchased as RETAIL....following the Menu's should be happening......
When XP-is installed,,,,,,Install the DELL Resource CD.....and what might pertain to your PC.....
Install the MODEM and Driver....Install the Internet Software.....Install the Security Software.....go to Microsoft UPDATE and INSTALL all the EXPRESS Updates/add the Custom Updates as needed.....
Before going to the Microsoft Update Website....be sure and UPDATE your Security Software...
Be sure your Internet Software is fully Registered and perform about 3-4 Re-Starts to be sure.....
Be Sure to Re-Start your PC along the way for assured functionality.....and even a DEFRAGMENTATION is very good....Clean Disk....look inside the Device Manager....
When UPDATEING.....turn-off....OTHER Updateing systems....like McAFEE/when useing Microsoft Update....even Turn-OFF the Microsoft AUTO-Update when at MicroSoft Update.....
I always install my PRINTER...last....
I always use a NORMAL Start-up for a CLEAN Install......and may choose to use a SELECTIVE Start-up as my Programs go in.....ROXIO will usually require a SELECTIVE Start-Up....also Music Match uses a Selective Start-Up....
I re-Install my MODEM when everything has been INSTALLED....sometimes my Internet software also....
That's about all.......I don't think I forgot----a thing....Upgrades are tricky....I recommend a Full OS purchase....the UPGRADES though Priced very nicely....are trickier.
