Clearing unread messages...

I have a pretty good background in computers and am 2 months from graduation in computer programming.  So I am not a newbie.  My problem is that my friend used my admin account to check his email and deleted them without reading them at his msn account.  Now when I go to log in at the windows XP password screen, it tells me that I have 4 unread messages, even though it's his email addy.  How do I clear that notification ?  Can anyone please tell me?  I restored the messages from his trash can to his inbox, and read them, then deleted them, and it still hasn't registered with XP.  I also had him sign into MSN Messenger 6.1, to see if this is what the password screen got it's unread message info from.  I've even deleted my history and cookies in the hope that it might work.  Nothing has worked so far, can anyone tell me how to erase "You have 4 unread messages" from my Windows XP password login screen?

I thank you in advance for any help.

Brad.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and run and install number 99.  Or another way is to to go to www.google.com do a search for XP power toys and install tweakUI.  It has a function to disable it.  Kip

If you want to see what Email account is it checking use Registry Editor HKEY;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
The  HKEY's below show the Email(s) account used.

Thanks guys, I went into the registry and found it, I just deleted the entire record, as opposed to trying to change the value.  Thanks for your help, and quick replies, that was awesome.
