Comodo Firewall

Installed the latest version of Comodo Firewall last week. Ran it in the training mode for 4 days. Now running in the safe mode. What a pleasure from my previous experience, very quite and I believe at this point very good. My only issue is it takes over two minutes to load. Has this been your experience and am I exposed for a short period of time until it is up and running.?

I'll answer your second question by asking you a question:   are you using a router which has a NAT [or other hardware] firewall?

if you have a router with a hardware/NAT firewall, that's giving you inbound protection instantaneously, even before your comodo (software) firewall can load/initialize itself.

but if you don't have a router with hardware firewall, then yes, there can be a short period when your system is exposed prior to the comodo firewall initializing itself.

I'm using Comodo too, but I must have a different version as I can't find the "training mode", nor the "safe mode".

What version are you using ?  I'm using Comodo Pro...

It's running fine by the way... So far, so good...:smileyhappy:

Thanks Sea Bee; I am using the same version too. Mine was checked for "safe" mode. I guess I didn't remember where that setting was. This firewall has many, many features and I've still got some learning to do, lol.

Very impressive firewall too..  I've never seen a free one with this many options..

I'm making progress though, so that is good!:smileyvery-happy:

Thank you for the information, no I don't have a router. I never considered one as I have a single computer

and thought a router was for multi wireless set up. I'll check it out, thanks again for the suggestion.

routers tend to be used for multi-user setups... though not necessarily wireless:   most routers also support direct Ethernet-wired cabling to computers.   [the home router I use has room for up to 4 Ethernet connections, in addition to "lots" of wireless connections]

you might check with your service provider to see what other types of hardware firewalls they offer... perhaps they have a DSL/cable modem with a built-in firewall????

If you right-click the Comodo icon in your tray, and hover over Firewall Security Level, you will be presented with a selection of all 5 modes. After a suitable period of training, I also switched to Safe Mode.

My home PC is not on a network, yet I purchased a LinkSys router solely for its hardware firewall protection. Well worth the modest price, IMO.

Thanks Joe, so much...    I didn't know that option was available by navigating that way!!!  Much easier for me...

The firewall seems fine..  I've never ran one with this many features.  I guess it will do everything but pour my morning coffee, lol...

Thank you for that tip my friend; take care...

Check out this article on the set-up of Comodo fire wall,I found it very helpful. Lets face it -This is not your mother's fire wall.
