compound problems: windows xp and error messages

Dear Dell experts:

I have dual issues so apologies if I am in the wrong section.

When I start up my computer it gets stuck at Windows page until I press ctl-alt-delete which jigs it to the desktop area. This prompts this error message:

AppName: jusched.exe           AppVer: 0.0.0.0      ModName: jusched.exe

ModVer: 0.0.0.0       Offset: 00001403C:\DOCUME~1\Me\LOCALS~1\Temp\db33_appcompat.txt

Also when I try to open iTunes and MS IM I get the error message: ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. I know other have said they have problems with the new iTunes because of issues with Quick Time, my Quick Time Player works fine.

I also get this description of error messages:

AppName: itunes.exe              AppVer: 7.0.1.8      ModName: quicktime.qts

ModVer: 7.1.3.130   Offset: 00104e8d

C:\DOCUME~1\Me\LOCALS~1\Temp\f912_appcompat.txt

When I am on the Internet I get a recurrent pop up error message questioning the security certificate which is really annoying. It will pop up repeatedly even when I agree to go ahead with accessing the relevant website.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Not sure if they are related issues, but the first one (jusched.exe) is the Sun Java Update Scheduler, which used to cause problems similar to those you mention, but the bug was fixed in Java 2 Runtime Environment SE version v1.4.2_03 (Virtual v1.4.2_03 -b02).

Can you check the following:

In Control Panel, double click Java Plug-in, first check version on the About tab, check details on Update tab, if required you can update using the Update Now button, check other tabs for any unusual/wrong settings. In IE, click on Tools Menu > Internet Options > Advanced tab, scroll down to check Java (Sun) version v1.4.2_03 is present & is checkbox enabled.

OK, I checked Java via IE and it says I have the Java 2 v 1.4.2_03. My computer would not allow me to open the application in my control panel.

Also I made a mistake in my initial email. In the Startup phase the computer gets stuck on the Welcome page not Windows.

Sounds like you are bypassing user password (ctrl-alt-del) at windows log-on welcome page? This could cause application security settings/access problems based on required user profile identification

It might help & avoid a lengthy safe boot mode trial & error process if you can possibly remember changes to PC just B4 the problem(s) started.

Alternatively, using a suitable Windows system restore date point just prior to date error(s) started, should fix problem(s). If possible backup/save any personal data created between present date & the system restore date used.
