Computer freezes on update
I have a Precision M2800 and my computer will not update Windows 10. I had to wipe my computer a while back and give it a fresh reset. After I did I had a lot of trouble re-installing Windows 10. Now that Windows 10 is finally installed it will not update.
Every time my computer goes to install the new updates it freezes right in the middle of the update process and I have to force a shut down.
I put a picture of the screen my computer freezes on during the process. Sorry that it's sideways I couldn't figure out how to fix that.

similar result on other M2800 laptops. We were able to update them to 1703 initially but all hang at some % during the upgrade to 1709 and 1803. These have dedicated ATI gpu.

Then I proceeded to do a driver update via AMD Radeon tools to the 2018 Q3.1 edition
( win10-64bit-radeon-pro-software-enterprise-18.q3.1-oct1 or later )
The AMD Firepro W4170M driver has been updated to a more recent date of 9/18/2018 with version 24.20.12042.5 -- Maybe future Windows 10 updates on the M2800 will finally play nicely with this driver!

I finally upgraded to 1809 today from 1709. It wasn't any of the solutions provided.
Here's what I did:
Uninstalled the AMD FireproW4170M device and driver via the Device Manager. I checked the option to delete any drivers as well.
The expected result is that this display device will no longer be available on this system (this is temporary)
Performed a Windows Update Assistant install from Microsoft (not the Windows Button\(Gear Icon)\Windows Update method). I was using version Windows10Upgrade9252 and started the program as Administrator settings.
When it was ready to do the reboot, I disconnected all USB devices and disconnected the pc from the internet (using the switch on right side of M2800, slid it forward to set it into airplane mode) It performed the install and finished to 100%. I was thrilled to not get stuck at 43%.
When install was done, Windows went through the final configuration and messages that your pc is almost ready and all files are where they are supposed to be.
I rebooted the computer one more time, enabled internet, then started up Device Manager -- It showed a Windows Generic Display Device (did not identify it) and instructed it to search internet for latest driver and installed it successfully. The version it installed may not be the latest (for your info -- it put version: 23.20.768.12 on with a driver date of 10/26/2017 ) but that's another exercise to do with the latest AMD Radeon driver update program.
Long story short, I am finally glad to be on v1809 and done with things hanging up at the 43% point. This method may be necessary in future updates but a very straight forward one with no need to modify registry settings. Using the latest driver set from AMD did not work for me. Only the method of uninstalling this device and deleting it's drivers finally worked for me.
About **bleep** time!! Let me know if this worked for you or have any questions!

This technique worked today for me on an M2800 running 1803, and trying to update to 1903 with a USB stick setup using Media Creator. The update locked the M2800 multiple times about 48%. Removing the drivers... it went right on through it! Thanks!!!

I need to update from 1803 to 1903. I've problems of stuck at 48% too. Before to try your solution I've a question. When I uninstall the driver, it will be unavailable. How I can proceed with others step? Do I need an external monitor to reinstall the driver?
Updated: I've seccesfully updated from 1803 to 1909 following the instruction above, it worked fine for me too!!!
At the beginning I was afraid to loose the availability of the monitor disinstalling the driver. But it is not, so great explanation.
Thank you!
