try runnning chkdsk /r from the recovery consol after booting to the windows cdrom

sounds like a common spyware damage. try repair install over it.  also.. when u boot to empty desktop do   ctrl alt del.. click new task.. type explorer or end explorer in processes then run explorer in new task. if it works its malware :smileysurprised:
