computer locked needed password

I was playing a game on the laptop when the battery died and computer went into hibernation while I charged the battery. When I turned the compter back on it told me the computer was locked and needed a password. Dont remember ever setting up password and tried all passwords i ever use. Nothing worked. Manually turned off and then back on. My entire desktop settings changed to really huge icons and the screen shrunk. How can I reset the password or find what password I may have used?

You just need to right click on the desktop and select properties. You will be into Display properties window. Select ' Screen Saver ' tab and under that after wait time you would find the check box for ' On resume, password protect' uncheck this box and then click on apply and Ok. Ten after restarting whenever you computer goes in to hibernate mode and when you resume it would not prompt for a password.

mjf33904,

Since you can boot to Windows (albeit with an odd display) try this.

Log on to Windows in Safe Mode. At the Welcome screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice. At the sign-in screen enter Administrator and leave the password blank. If you are not able to log on using a blank password, the program here can set it to blank.

Once you are logged on as system administrator you can go to Start|Control Panel|User Accounts and remove or reset the password on your named administrator account.
