There are many possible reasons for computer slowing down, hardware, software, heat, spyware, etc.

Would happen to know which "invalid programs"

Are you saying the boot process is slow?

You can disable unnecessary services which should speed up the boot process.

Have you run any scans?

Run your AV & avg anti spyware in safe mode.

What I do at every shut down is run ccleaner which deletes temp files, cookies, etc.

Another feature of ccleaner is to remove invalid registry entris, maybe this will remove the so called
"invalid programs".Use the issues buttton to accomplish this task.

ccleaner has a back up feature before deleting just in case.

Boot process is slow, not really "slow" not like, it takes half an hour to get to windows.
What do you mean by "which invalid programs?"

When you mention unnessary services, I assume that you mean windows services accessed by going to start, run, and then typing in services.msc. The list has already been configured. Scans have been run for virses, spyware, and adware, but no threats are found. I do have ccleaner and I use that program and two other ones to remove invalid registry data, although I make backups of the registry first to be on the safe side. The spyware programs that I use are superantispyare, sybot search and destory, spysweeper, mcafee antispyware, and ad aware se personnal.

My bad, I didn't understand what it was that you were asking. To answer your questions, some software programs have an uninstall manager option where you can see if any of your installed programs are considered to be invalid. The only program that I have that has an uninstall manager option is ace utilities. There are several programs listed that have yellow question marks beside them and according to the help menu, any program that has a yellow question mark is considered to be an invalid program, meaning that if you were to uninstall the program from the add remove programs list, the uninstall wizard would probably give you an error message so your only option is to delete the invalid program. When I say that "invaild programs may slow things down," I mean that windows attempts to look for all programs installed, but can't find ones that are considered to be invalid and just moves on. I use internet explorer, version 7.

"What do you mean by "which invalid programs"?

Thats what  I was asking you.

" I assume that you mean windows services accessed by going to start, run, and then typing in services.msc."

Yes

If you can elaborate more.Your primary interest is that "invalid programs" may slow things down.

Which browser do you use?

Hummmmm,I see.Now we're on the same page.

I can't possible know how much these invalid programs slow things down.I guess that there are factors to be taken into consideration, such as disk size, amount of files, etc,The time factor is probably negligible at best

Are uninstall managers even useful to go through?

Something is needed to accomplish the task at hand.I don't believe there is any concern in your situation.Like I said the time factor is probably negligible.

I know that the program that I have, ace utilities, has an uninstall manager and the program lists several programs, one of which is a blank space and another one points to a program that I no longer use, but is still installed on my hard drive.

I may not have mentioned this before, but I'd like to fix an invalid programs that may not be working at this time. Doing some searching, here is what I have. Thank you for the link to download add remove pro

Under add remove pro, there are two red x's for the following two programs,
MusicMatch jukebox
napster

If I go to the add remove program list in windows, the same two programs are listed, but one thing that the add remove programs list in windows doesn't tell you is if a program is valid or not.
napster
musicmatch jukebox

Using ace utilities, uninstall manager, the same programs are listed, but no yellow question marks appear next to the program name
napster
music match jukebox

Point being is that I don't know what to believe. It's not your fault or mine. Add remove says that I have two programs that aren't valid, ace utilities says that I don't. One thing that I do know is that I haven't yet checked to see if the two programs listed in the add remove programs list in windows are valid or not. If they are, windows will say so. I can tell you right now that I don't need napster. I don't know about musicmatch jukebox. What is strange is that ace utilities lists several invaild programs and add remove pro only lists two. If you don't know what to make of all this, then someone else can help me out. You did what you could.

Very helpful link to go to, but the first option mentioned is something that I don't have available as an option, For example, using ace utitlies, uninstall manager, the first program listed is pestpatrol which I don't even use anymore. However neither add remove pro or the add remove programs list in windows will list pest patrol so I'm kind of in a odd stituation.

I was told that I could search for entries with this program, but as I said before, I'm not familiar with the program. I can get help with this program elsewhere.
