What antivirus and spyware programs are you running?  Are they updated?  If so and no problems are reported (which is not always accurate anyway), you may have too little memory (how much do you have?) or too many unnecessary programs being loaded.  One way is to check Start, Run, type msconfig, click Startup tab and repost some of the things running there.  Also, if you have lots of icons in the lower right corner toolbar that you don't use or know what they are, this will bloat the system.  Give us your computer details here for more help.

Got to:

Start>run>type msconfig (hit enter) and look at the startup tab on the top right.  Post back everything that is starting and hopefully we can pare down the list to only the essentials.
