converting from 32bit to 64bit

Question

How do you convert from 32bit to 64bit?  Does Dell control this with BIOS or jumpers on mother board?  Using windows media edition. Computer is dimension XPS 410.

Convert what exactly?

What processor do you have? I assume ( dangerous ) that you have a 64 bit processor.

Either the system hardware is 32 bit or 64 bit you cannot change it.

A 64 bit processor system can execute 32 bit coded software.

A 32 bit processor system can not execute 64 bit coded software.

A 64 bit processor running a 64 bit operating system Must have 64 bit drivers ( it cannot use the 32 bit drivers ).

A 64 bit processor running a 32 bit operating system can use 32 bit drivers ( it cannot use the 64 bit drivers ).

Maybe this will help but I don't know exactly what you are asking.

XPS 410 is 64 bit capable....

The Premium, and Ultimate DVD disk version (retail) can be upgraded to the 64 bit OS, but I believe from what I heard correctly that the OEM version DVD ( Dells ) only have the 32 bit version, not 64 bit.. Probably have to purchase the 64 bit version from a store. Others will weigh in on this later

If you are talking about the Windows XP OS instead of Vista, than you have to purchase the 64 bit OS Windows XP

I have at present time windows XP media edition 2002. Plan to upgrade to vista home premium. prefer to end up with PC operating at 64bit.   sorry I did not list hardware in Dimension 410 XPS     intelcpu E6700 2GB memory 2-250GB HDD's raid nvidia 7950 GX2 creative SB XFI display 2407

In that case you have a 64 bit Hardware system and all you will need is the 64 bit OS, and Hardware Drivers. Most 32 bit programs will run on the 64 bit OS just fine, although some will not. You do not need to do anything with the hardware, there are no jumpers etc.   pcgeek11

I have Dell Optiplex 360 with a 32bit operating system and a 64bit processor.Native Access my studio software says it wont work without changing my 32bit to a 64bit OS.I created a media creation tool.i have a 32GB flashdrive.I downloaded rufus bootable tool,But i cant not get it to boot.Its says freeware then has a C://< What do i do?
