Thanks for the lead. I saved it to my Favs, but no luck. The only thing I found under software current was the Digital Media Experience entry :C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\DMXLauncher.exe
I tried adding the quotes as suggested for improper entries and it made no difference. I tried disabling it in the startup and still no luck. I even searched through the registry and found only the one entry listed above.
Thanks for your time and suggestion. I Googled 10 different scenarios and didn't find that site, so I appreciate the lead. It looks to have some other good info that will come in handy at some point, because we know how Windows is...(sigh)
Cheers!

DXM.exe entry was missing in Apps section of Registry. Fixed, No change in folder popup at bootup.
Ran DMX.exe from windows explorer, checked all setup options, none for Startup Destination from Settings, just DVD and Online.
DMX never did start automatically on my systems, nor do I have any links to Dell Media Experience from All Programs on any of the three machines we just got, just Dell , Dell Accessories & Dell Support.
I could capture all the available option screens to a word docfile and send to you for verification if interested, but I believe we're talking about the same Blue DVD player basically. I don't have picture options or music options, it just plays dvds. Is that it's full functionality? The address is my name at yahoo dot com if you want to send me yours.
This functionality isn't critical since WMP does it all as does WMC.
I just would like to get rid of the Dell Program Files folder popping up at bootup. I've looked for ways to log the bootup process so I can find what is triggering this, but with no luck so far. Very frustrating, especially when I can't seem to find any issue with the registry and disabling DMXLauncher.exe in startup has no effect. grrrrr :(
It took a few days to think of this. I just did a search at the bottom of the XP forum (first page). I used "Media Center at boot". (without the quotes) The original poster is garyblot and it's dated 12-05-2005. Is it possible that MC is starting over Windows?
I don't have either starting at bootup. I know there is an option in MCE to start with MC, but I prefer XP startup and just use MC when I'm diplaying on the big screen.
This is defeinately a Dell setup woopsy. I've never seen an app that you can only configure once and then your stuck with it. It's ridiculous at best.
There is a (faint) possibility that your dvd drive "thinks" there is a disk in the drive and that you want to view it. One of the best helpers on these boards-Predator-answers in the Dimension forum under cds/dvds. Find any answer from him and you will find a link for his website. All kinds of useful things here! I think it's worth a look anyway. I plan to make another note of the exact address for his site as I seem to have lost the first one I made!
Well, I had wasted so much time on the issue and since the system was NEW, I thought I might as well "test" the DRS and resetup from the recovery command file. It worked flawlessly. I did the update again to the DVD player without a hitch and the folder popup is no longer happeneing. I don't know why not since I repeated the same process upon cracking the box open and hooking up the cables. Go figure.
In any event that pain is gone and I'm not concerned about the cineplayer since I have a WinDVD as my player of choice. From where I sit, it's just professional when things work as advertised, what you expect and what you paid for.
I appreciate all you help and I'm sorry we couldn't find a fix for these thwo isses because, you have verified the DMX config issue and that flags that others are probably going through the same thing if we are... sigh.

To adjust the settings so that your system does not boot to the Dell Media Experience (DMX) program every time you turn your system on:
Click the Start button.
Click All Programs.
Click Dell Media Experience.
The Dell Media Experience window appears.
From the main Dell Media Experience page, click the Settings button.
The Settings window appears.
From the Startup Destination option, click the right arrow to locate To Windows.
Click the X in the upper right corner to close the DMX program window.
Reboot the system.
The DMX program will not automatically start when the system reboots.
