CPU usage??

Question

Is it normal for the CPU usage for system idle process to be in the 90% range, even when nothing is running?? Its been has high as 95%, and nothing else is ever this high, just the idle process......is that normal???  Please tell me it is:smileyindifferent:   Everything is working fine, and the memory usage isnt really excessive. So whats up with this?? Im not an expert, so if this is an obvious or stupid question, that would be the reason:smileyhappy:   -M--

That is why it is called an IDLE process.

Idle

1. not working or active; unemployed; doing nothing: idle workers.

2. not spent or filled with activity: idle hours.

3. not in use or operation; not kept busy: idle machinery.

Im not sure what youre implying....I didnt ask what IDLE meant. I was questioning why it was using SO MUCH CPU when it was idle. Do you understand now? I know what idle means, so why would you explain it like it wouldnt be a surprise WHY IT IS actually using so much?? But the person before you explained it already.   -M.

System Idle tells you the amount of CPU time that's free, available, unused, waiting for you to command it into action. In other words, IDLE. :) Ron

pcgeek,   There was nothing in my post that would make you, or anyone else, think that. I was very clear about what my question was. Who wouldnt know what idle means??? I may not be an expert, as I stated, but most people DO know what that means. Maybe you should be more careful when reading questions, so that you completely understand what is being asked. pcgeek,   That has nothing to do with what I was asking. As you can see, the 2 previous responses DID understand what I meant, and answered accordingly. So why are you pressing the issue of whether I knew what something meant, when I wasnt even asking that. I simply wanted to find out whether the number under the CPU usage was normal, since it was so high. I guess it didnt mean that it was actually using that much, it meant that it was available, as the other person before so kindly pointed out.    OK??   -:smileyhappy:  Have a nice night
