Critical Error, Memory write/read failure, black screen freeze, driver error...HELP!!!!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.
My system is:
Inspiron 8500 2.2GHz
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
1GB RAM
Dell TrueMobile 1300
Broadcom 440x 10/100
NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 64Mb
I recently added a program from audible.com to my machine, and since then I have been getting the big bad blue screen, telling me that windows has shut down, etc. When trying to reboot, I will get as far as the Dell screen and then all goes black and then finally a memory write/read error, and memory dump. However, the machine never recovers from the dump. I have run the Dell daignostics disc and can finally boot up my machine (diagnostics BTW say all systems go), but with critical errors at various times.
I have since, reseated my memory, removed the program, run diagnostics with a pass in all categories, virus checks and the like.
Last night, while the machine was working (prior to critical error), I got an error that windows wanted to report to microsoft, so I let it send, and an explorer window poped up that said it was a driver error.
Has anyone had this problem or can you suggest what driver may have been altered in the software install?
I am currently finishing up my thesis, and all of my material and specialty programs are on this machine, I really need to get functunality back soon.
Thanks so much for your help.

Option 2: Do a search for a folder called Watchdog and open the most recent file in it with Notepad (ie "Open With" and select Notepad, "Always Use"). Should tell you the offending driver, whatever. Then check your Device Manager. Uninstall driver, reboot, then reinstall latest driver (from Manufacturer) or let XP reinstall a generic one.

Unfortunately, I tried to do a system restore and was denied. (I think I ran speed disc right after I installed the offending software.)
But I will try the watchdog trick and let you know how it turns out.
Thanks, and if you can think of anything else I should know, give a shout.
