C:\windows\system32\MSVCR71.dll file 'not found'

Question

Many applications need this file.  It must have been there yesterday but is gone today.  First sign of trouble was a failed update of Norton Anti-virus.  System restore doesn't work because it also requires that file.  Can I copy the file from my laptop to a CD, then load it into the desktop windows folder?  Or do I have to re-install XP?

Thanks Osprey.  I'm back in business.  Strange how files just disappear.  I copied .NET from my wife's system and it worked fine.
