DCOM start netman with arguments
I have this error in the event viewer everytime I go onto the internet.
The service Database is locked attempting to start the service netman with arguments in order to run the server. Source DCOM Event ID 10005
I have installed all critical updates, after doing a reinstall of Windows. Is there something in Network connections that should be unchecked. Is this something to worry about.

Hi
Have you downloaded this DCOM ending program? Can you still run Norton Live Update and the Windows Update? It just sounds confusing. I have all critical updates installed for DCOM, but I still get those errors in the event viewer. I wish the internet was like it was years ago when I could surf the net in a Happy Go Lucky Way and not get hacked into to easily.

sheilia, i am not sure what is causing the error.. anyway, the dcombobulater is a simple utility.. you can download it, and use it, however, i would be careful in what you do with it.. i have used it before to test to see if my port 135 was upen.. i did not realize that it could disable "dcom" until i looked at it again, today.. it says to run the test first before disabling dcom.. i almost missed it, but my "dcom" was already disabled, at least according to the dcombobulator, so i did not run the process to disable "dcom".. the program is safe, if you want to use it..
is there any additional information in the dcom error logs in your event viewer?

Hello SheilaB,
Yes i've been using DCombobulator for about 2 months and I've had no prolem with Norton Live Update or Win. Update. To use DComBob you have to have Your Dcom updated. I haven't had any problems at all and no more errors in Event Viewer for Dcom, it's great because I was getting them all the time and couldn't fix it. As you read in the link I gave you DCOM has really no use for home computers. You will really be happy with it and you can turn it on or off if you want. It's a very small program and it gives you step by step instructions. Turn it on at just let it run. I will give you a link to Steve Gibson's site and you can check it out.. You will like it... Lee

I remember during the blaster worm attacks that I was told by Dell to do the following to turn off DCOM so I could download the patch.
start run open Dcomcnfg.exe
Then under console root click component services open the computers subfolder right click my computer and then properties click default properties tab click to clear the enable distributed com on this computer box and click ok.
They told me to disable DCOM in this way in order to go download the Blaster patch. They then told me to reinable in after downloading the patch. I don't understand why they wanted me to reinable it, but I did anyway.
My question is could a person disable DCOM in this way instead of the decombobulator utility?

Hello Sheila,
If Dell told you that I suppose you could but why bother doing all that when you can use DCOMbob, I have heard of the why you are talking about but really don't know how to do it.. DComBob does the same thing and if you should want to enable it in the future for some reason you can just click on the enable button. It is a very simple program that gives you step by step instuctions. Did you read what Steve Gibson said about it? I haven't had a single problem with it and I'm not an expert on computers. If you have all the latest updates on DCOM then you are all set to download DCOMBobulator.. After you do it you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner. and it really is nice not to see all those X's in Event Viewer.. I'm not trying to sell this program to you but it really is good.. If you don't like it just get rid of it.. Lee
