DDR2 RAM

Does DDR2 memory have to be installed in pairs. I heard some types of RAM require that.

In desktops, DDR2 needs to be installed in pairs. In some notebooks, it appears that it doesn't have to be that way.

you can purchase one stick of ram even if its ddr2.  however, in doing so your memory would be limited to half its bandwidth.  the computer will run using just one stick, but in order to run it at its most efficient bandwidth...dual sticks are required.

I will be upgrading my RAM soon. I have two 256 DDR2 modules installed (not sure of the speed but system was purchased in Dec. 04) in my Dimension 4700. I would like to recover some of the cost of the new 512 modules by selling the 256 modules. Any suggestions on a way to move my 256 modules?

eBay… the ultimate worldwide flea market!
Here is a URL that will explain how to use it:

I had gone to eBay to buy one 'hard-to-find' item and then sold enough 'hard-to-find'
from the attic to double my money back.

Another route, our local newspapers and shopper offer Free Classified Ads for a limited number of 'less than $50' items.

URL below is an example of one of 36 that came from an 'eBay Search' for 256 DDR2 modules

The Auction on that particular item will end on March 11th.

I have a Dimension 4700 and I believe the four memory slots are configured in two pairs. How should the new memory be installed - two sticks in one pair of slots or one stick in the first slot of each pair?

Found an answer at: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/sm/parts.htm#wp1055048

One stick in each pair of slots.

Also, the machine came with a single 256 MB memory card. If I continue to use it, will all the memory run at half speed? Where should the 256MB stick be installed with respect to the two 512MB sticks?

I'd be interested in one of the 256 MB sticks mentioned above. Let me know if they're still available and I can send you my contact infromation.
