defrag time ?
I have a xps420 with vista home premium. Dose vista have a graphic view of how far though the defrag it is?
if not this is very annoying seeing as all the other versions of windows have.
also how long should it take to defrag a 1Tb raid? Usually it takes between 40mins and 3 hours its now been defragging for almost 24hours
thanks for any help

Yeah, that's the problem with manual and scheduled defragmentation..that was okay during the days of drives not larger than a few GB. These days, with drive sizes in the range of hundreds of GB, scheduled defrag has become obsolete and simply cannot keep up. Waiting around for a 300-400GB or higher drive to be defragged can take hours, and it's a waste of time.
That's why automatic defragmenters are preferred these days (heck, even OSX does it)...they save time and resources. While defragmentation occurs in the background, you can still continue to use the PC as usual without fear of interruption. Ofcourse, the defragger has to be 'intelligent' too and defrag only when necessary, and not beyond a point where the system resources/time spent in defragging outweight the benefits of defragging. Vista's defragger is pretty hopeless, but if you go the payware route, there are excellent solutions.
