Dell Client System Update (DCSU) not finding updates
I have been running DSCU on my E6500 Latitude (with Windows 7) since its release on the 19th of Nov. As there had been no updates posted on the Dell support site, I was unable to determine how well the software worked. As of the 1st of Dec, a BIOS update was posted on the support site for my E6500 and is listed under my specific support tag downloads (version A18)
I am currently running BIOS version A16, and the DSCU software also reports version A16 but fails to show this update. Even will the filter set to 'all updates for system model' (instead of 'updates for this system configuration') and of course making sure all updates are ticked in the download filter preferences.
Checking down the list of the Dell support site I now just noticed it also has not picked up the new touchpad driver (released on the 3rd of Dec) or the WiFi driver (released on the 1st of Dec), so its safe to say that for some reason its just not finding or notify me of any updates to my system.
Even with the filter set to 'all updates for system model' it shows 14 updates but does not include the BIOS, WiFi, or Touchpad updates for my system (all the items shown are not related to my system)
Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi,
I am sorry you encountered issues with DCSU. There is up to a two week delay from the time updates are available directly on the support.dell.com website and when they'll be available for download via DCSU. Have you attempted to utilize DCSU more recently to see if the discrepancy still exists?
thanks,
aaron

To be honest i have up with the DCSU and nobody responded to the post :emotion-4:
I will install it again and see if there is any improvements but my system is up to date right now and I wont know until a new update is released.
If there is still going to be a 2 week delay using DCSU then its unlikely that i will wait for it or bother using it in future.
Thanks

Oh, its much worse than that. If you run the DCSU back to back just to check for updates it comes up with different updates each time. This software is so NOT ready for prime-time that I have disabled it on new systems and removed it from mine. It did mess up my system once.
As to the BIOS update, when I first encountered the DCSU, it found a BIOS update but it kept failing to install. It turned out that there was a requirement for an intemediate BIOS update before the most recent one. The DCSU had no idea. I have forgotten which updates those were but perhaps it has bearing on your situation.

I'm sure the issue has long been forgotten or resolved, but I was having a similar issue and found that I needed to have the power cord plugged in to the laptop to run the BIOS update (duh) and that DCSU won't even show available updates that require ac power unless it's plugged in.
