Dell Command Update 5.5.0 will not install (Resolved)
Hello all,
I work on all kinds of Dell's and I have recently encountered this one. The first thing I did for one was I ran Dell SupportAssist (DSA), and then let the web install all updates, I was then able to install Dell Command Update (DCU). The next one I got this one, same thing DCU did not install. So, I did the same ran DSA, let the site scan for updates. But this time, I installed one update at a time, and the latest update for TPM was at the top of the list.
I installed the latest TPM update, restarted and then after the restart DCU 5.5.0 installed and is working. So, apparently, DCU 5.5.0 requires the latest TPM installed.

Wow. Sounds to me like the folks at Dell really didn't think about the system requirements for DCU 5.5.0.
As an aside, it works on the Inspiron line of laptops as well - DSA is the same for both consumer and business lines.

Can confirm installing the desktop runtime solved the problem for me (fresh install of W11 on latitude 5290 detachable).
Dell Command Update documentation states as much: "DCU 5.5 needs .NET 8 for a successful installation."
Seems like the Dell Command Update installer should check for or install .NET if .NET is a requirement.

@jakelondon723 Still had issues with installing DCU after .NET 8 was installed, its a very temperamental issue.
Only workaround thats been working for me is installed .NET, then doing the updates directly from the web.

@Amuro_Ray. This worked for me in our environment. Thanks for the insight!

Good afternoon, new to the thread,
What I found is that I kept getting a DEP_HARD_ERROR in the Log and noticed it kept referencing "Open File: explorer". After numerous attempts and not having any files or folders opened, I was not able to install DCU 5.5.0
I fixed this by doing the following:
1) Opened an Admin CMD Window
2) Launched Task Manager from Admin CMD Window
3) Terminated all "explorer.exe" instances in Task Manager
4) From Admin CMD Window, navigated to path were DCU 5.5.0.exe is found on laptop
5) Ran the DCU 5.5.0 (not universal one) with the /s at the end
6) Waited about 7 minutes and it installed successfully
7) From Task Manager restarted the "explorer.exe" again
Hope this helps as this is what worked for me after numerous failed attempts.

@GarTrev This was the real fix for my organization. All of our machines already have .Net Runtime 8.0.15... randomly I could get it to install without killing explorer but was rare... Obviously this isn't sustainable for any kind of real deployment so we're going to stay on 5.4 until this is resolved.

After running .NET 8 and clearing the registry, running as admin, I still get the error message install interrupted. TPM is current, OS win 11. model is 5550

@Washington-Jedi I have found the best way to get around this is to let the site install DSA and then let the site scan for drivers and let it complete that and after a restart you should be able to install DCU.

@SunnySouthTexas
This has also just worked for me on a fresh install of Windows 11 24H2

Unfortunately, my team and I have found that the only solution is to perform a full reimage. We also tried editing the registry to clear all old versions.

I've tried all the solutions and still cannot get DCU to install. I've even reimaged, and it still fails.

@KeyMaster2003 I had a few that this happened to, but one of our in house update tools ran ,installed some OS updates (for some reason my company has windows updates blocked). then I was able to install DSA, and install updates via the browser, then after it restarted, then was able to install DCU.

Glad to help. This has been quite and uphill battle and not one resolution has been consistent. At this point installing DSA, running installs via the site, then installing DCU has been the most consistent.

This also works for my systems. So far, this way has not failed yet.
IF any of the dell folders exist delete them and recreate manually.
Change the owner of all DELL folders/include SubFolders to Authenticated Users after creating.
C:\Program Files\Dell --create change owner and give authenticated users full permissions to this and all subfolders
C:\ProgramData\Dell --create change owner and give authenticated users full permissions to this and all subfolders
C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell --create change owner and give authenticated users full permissions to this and all subfolders
Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_62KRK_WIN64_5.5.0_A00_02.EXE
than extract DCU to C:\Temp\DCU 5.5
use task manager kill windows explorer.
from admin cmd run
c:\temp\dcu 5.5>DellCommandUpdateApp_Setup.exe /S /v/qn
wait like 5 minutes
task manager start windows explorer.
After a reboot C:\ProgramData\Dell --Permissions changed but Dell command continues to work.
