Dell Dimension 4600i - CD resource
impossible to download the Resource CD for a Dimension 4600i. Why?
Because of course it would be to simple if Dell would care enough about its customers to make thing easy!
There is only 2 drivers listed for my service tag... NONE for the Ethernet chip.
In the all files for 4600, there is only one driver for Ethernet card... and of course it does not work.
Seconds before reinstalling Xp, that computer was working perfectly and access internet
WERE IS THE DRIVER FOR THAT ETHERNET CARD?

According to the Dell manual the NIC is an Intel Pro 10/100. That driver is listed in the Dell Downloads HERE
When you reinstalled Windows XP, did you install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers? That MUST be installed BEFORE installing device drivers, and in most cases no Sound or Ethernet driver will install if the chipset drivers were not installed.
The correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install motherboard chipset drivers (3) Install Device Drivers including Video, Dell sound driver, Ethernet, etc.

the "here" driver is the exact driver I downloaded and used twice (since I installed windows twice...)
every device installed properly (including the chipset) except the NIC and the audio. Of course I did not loose time trying to make the audio work... priority is the NIC
I am not the only one having that problem I found a web site dedicated to that NIC problem with the Dimension 4600 and 48 000+ people have visited it !!!!
I must be because Dell is doing a to good job with it...

If the install is done in correct order, both the audio and Ethernet will install. If "everyone" had this same problem the forum would be loaded with complaints, and it's not. I have been doing support on this form since 2002.

the install was done in the correct order twice. I installed the NIC driver manually at last, I followed the instructions that came with the driver. I it and work I would had download the Audio driver. And as I already said there are the two only devices with a yellow "?"....

Do you have an optional Ethernet card? That is the only answer left, from what you have posted.

Yes I had an optional card that I could installed in.
Finally I installed the driver MANUALLY and it worked! There must be something wrong with the .exe file.
thank you for your help.
continue the good work

Some of the older drivers installers open up in Internet Explorer. If you have a version higher than 6 and a higher Service Pack than intended then sometimes the improved security settings prevent them from installing in the manner as Dell intended. Such drivers should be updated.
You need to right click the device with the error in Windows XP and click update driver, then tell it to search C:\Dell\Drivers\R67150\WinXP
I have had to do this for several older systems as I find it better to have the service packs and internet explorer before the drivers.
