Dell Driver Update Older than Windows Update Driver
I never install driver updates through Windows Update. Don't trust them. Today I was alerted by Windows Update to a G33/31 Chipset driver update published April 2008. Went to download this driver update from the Dell site and the published date listed there is November 2007.
Why wouldn't the Dell site have a more recent driver update?

Dell, many times, does not issue driver/BIOS updates unless the driver provided does not meet their published specs for their device or to correct a problem. Many times Retail drivers are updated quite frequently to accomodate the many Retail devices and their potential uses with various motherboards, or to fix a problem in a certain Retail application.
Since Dell uses many custom OEM components, only use Dell provided drivers for these OEM products. There are some, such as most desktop video boards that do use the Retail drivers.

I get all my Intel chipset drivers from Intel, I avoid Microsoft drivers.
