I am having a similar problem; however, the Dell folder that is opening contains the folders Help and Support Customization, SolutionCenter and SystemProfiler. ( I have XP, Dell Dimension 4300 ) This problem never occurred until today, immediately after I installed new software for my new Casio point and shoot camera.  I uploaded pictures from the memory card to my computer.  After installing software, I was instructed to restart computer for changes to take effect, it was then that the folder first popped open.  It is occurring on all three user accounts.  If anyone has any idea how to remedy this please let me know.  I am going to try to uninstall the software programs and see if it makes a difference.

I was able to stop the folder from opening by NOT having the memcard.exe program load into memory. This was a choice in the options for Memory Card Manager. So now, if I want to load pictures from my camera, I have to open software once the camera is connected (rather than have the software detect the camera and open automatically). This is more of a work-around, than a solution.

Hi
I am having a problem with the C:\Program Files\Dell folder opening everytime I restart or switch user on my Inspiron 6000.

Has anyone got a solution yet?
This is really annoying!

Hi Perfect NX01,

Yes it is very annoying.  I am assuming you also have a Dell printer.  This is a problem with the Windows XP conflicting with the Memory Card Manager (MCM).  Windows XP will automatically detect a memory card when you connect your camera or when you insert into your printer in order to download pictures.  Windows XP is detecting the MCM and is trying to read a memory card upon booting when the MCM remains activated.  You do not need another memory card manager, this function is built into the XP operating system. You need to deactivate your MCM.  Go to all programs / Dell printers/ Whatever printer you have/ click Deactivate Memory Card Manager.  (Don't worry you don't need it with XP)  If you have some other manufacturer's printer, just find where you can turn off or deactivate the MCM.  I hope this helps.  Please post reply.  Thanks, Junebug

I forgot to mention that if you downloaded camera software and have this problem as I did with my Casio, you might want to check out how to turn off the automatic setting detection in the software or even completely uninstall the software.  With XP, to download any pictures you can always just go to My Computer / Devices with Removable Storage / Removable Disk / DCIM and whatever folders you have for your camera and move your pictures or copy them to My Pictures or whatever folder you wish to put them in and then open them with whatever photo editing software you wish to open them with or edit them with.

Hi
Thanks for the assist. I did have a dell 944 All-In-One Printer. You were definately right about the MCM.

However, I had already solved the problem by using a fix from Ram at:
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=193444&query.id=560623#M193444

He told me to add "" to a registry key containing the mcm and it worked. I'm not sure if your fix would have worked as well but am guessing it might well have!

By the way, I think this problem started when I downloaded software for an Olympus Digital Camera. Looks like this is a common problem.

All the best and thanx again

Thank you. I appreciate you telling me about Ramesh's fix.  Not knowing exactly how to actually fix the problem, what I was doing was just avoiding the problem by finding an easy fix.  But I was willing to trade that work around for avoiding that "annoying" Dell folder.  Thanks again! Junebug
