Dell forums

Hi, I installed IE 7, and these forums updated the next day.I have noticed that this forum is very slow compared to when I had IE6. I,use other forums and there is no speed difference with IE7 which makes me think it is this forum. Is anyone else experiencing this slow down? Thanks, Lee

Is it always that way day or night, or could you have just hit a high traffic period?

With IE6 I have noticed no slowdown at all since the forum redesign.  (It even feels faster because the page is laid out better--fewer clicks to get back to thread indexes, etc.)

Now if only Dell's programmers would start truncating the excessively long usernames, the forums would be even better.  It's darn irritating when some idiot with a username like "dont-have-a-clue-how-to-keep-my-username-politely-short" posts a msg.  That forces the "Author" or "Latest Post" columns in the thread index to be too wide, and squashes the
 "Thread"
 column
 to be so
 narrow
 it is hard
 to scan
 thread
 titles
 easily!

I have noticed no forum speed difference using IE6 and 7 on several computers.  Certainly agree with dg1261 on those long names  happy smiley

I.E.7 includes a phishing filter, that I.E.6 did not have and it checks each site as it's loaded.  It will tend to slowdown loading very slightly.  But, even with I.E7 I don't really notice any slow loading other than when the server is busy.

Thanks for the replys. I have turned off auto web checking in IE options. I notice there is also a box that disables the phishing filter.I guess both buttons accomplish the same function. But as I said I have only noticed the slow down in this form.I am guessing it must be because of heavy usage as you suggest.Time will tell. Thanks again.Lee

Is it within the forum proper or responding to links from e-mails about forum posts?

Highlander48,
I notice you have only been with the forum since 3-2004.  Many of us have been around long before our 11-99 dates show and have seen many, many changes in all areas of the forum.  In November, 1999 everybody then in the forum had to re-register.  That is why it may seem to some that is the time the forum started; not so.  It has been fun through these years seeing the many changes and I must say they have all been for the better.
By the way, I notice the speed in the forum changes from time to time and I attribute it to heavy or light usage.  May be wrong but I have noticed a definite pattern.  I doubt IE 7 has anything to do with it.  I am using IE 7 now.

Like your name.  How do you like your Toyota SUV?!!

Happy Thanksgiving.
