dell is no help

i just purchased this xps with vista less than 2 weeks ago.  i work from home as a medical transcriptionist.  the software i need will not run on vista and they are not going to upgrade to vista as there has been too many problems.  so my request to dell is can i send you back my hard drive and have you uninstall the vista and install xp.  there answer is no. they will not downgrade my system for me.  you have got to be kidding me.  i am getting no where with customer support.  any suggestions for me?  thanks so much.

Are you sure the software will not run? You can possibly force the install by right clicking on the installation file and choosing Run as Adminstrator. Then you can use the compatibility option to make the program think it's running on Windows XP. Your other option is to buy a copy of XP and do a clean install.

You just installed XP? If you didn't specifically set it up as a dual boot situation then I'm pretty sure you just have XP on it now... not both.

If you were still interested in trying to run the software in Vista, perhaps you could try running it in "Compatibility Mode". This would however mean that you would have to restore the system back to Vista.
