Dell Movie Studio

Just purchased a new Dell system, including Dell Movie Studio which is supposed be THE best for making home movies.  However, I can't get past the capturing.  I get as far as selecting my digital camera icon which, but an error message pops up with "Failed to change video device".  What does this mean as the Help button does not work either!  Dell - would appreciate some help here.  Thanks.

I hope someone from Dell reads these messages because their support has just cost them a £2900 server order for the office which I will not now order.

Hi.  To help you, try posting your problems on the correct forum, the video forum, and do a search of topics from it.  Also, just browse through a few pages.  A quick look there suggests many cures for your troubles.  One suggestion was to change the software to Canopus DVDC which seems to work.  You may have a poor installation of the software; reinstall it.  The help section may require the install disk.  Also look here: http://www.geocities.com/delldvinfo/DellMovieHelp.htm

Thanks for trying but the site you suggested blew away what little brains I have left. Please be aware that I am a user and not a computer expert therefore I could not see from the site what I had to do.

Has Dell come up with a patch for it yet? I remember Movie Studio 2 having issues with XP, and basically having to increase the program to at least video wave 4 and I know 5 is out and that is the fix for the movie studio program for Windows XP and W2K pro. The version 3 has issues regarding problems with Windows XP, and this answer is from Dell's Knowledge Base. Hope you find this information useful in gaining a patch to repair this issue.

I have the same problem.  Did you get a resolution.  Dell has been useless....

No I have not but I find it difficult because I work for a living and because there is no phone support at weekends I have to try everything via the net. I dont know if you are in the same position but here is a number they gave me to ring:

UK 0870 366 4026. Should you get chance to ring them before I do could you let me know

Good luck and best regards

From a fellow Dell sufferer

If you are still interested I found a solution. I connected my video camera with a IEEE1394 cable instead of a USB cable and it worked!!!

When you go to the capture page and click next, there is a settings button.  Click on it, you may just need to change the input selection.
