I encountered this exact same problem. I called Dell tech support and they suggested I uninstall Dell Solution Center and reinstall it from one of the resource CDs. To install it from the resource CD, it's necessary to install Microsoft .Net, which I did. I then reinstalled the Dell Solution Center from the resource CD, but I still had the exact same problem. The Dell tech told me that I didn't really need the Dell Solution Center because all it really does is provide a few links to frequently accessed support sites and a link to your service tag. I was told it would be just as easy to write down my service tag number and save the sites as favorites in my Web browser. If you want the list of sites that the Dell Solution Center links to (per the Dell tech), post back; I'd be happy to provide them to you. This is more of a workaround than a solution, which may or may not be satisfactory to you. Perhaps others have encountered this problem and found a more favorable solution.
Good to know I'm not the only one. The links are not really important to me. And yea I can note the service tag somewhere, I guess I'm just annoyed by this glitch. :) Otherwise I really can't complain about the Dell rig. Lets hope the problem doesn't affect something else. Haven't seen any side effects so far though.
If you have the Dell overlay on XP's Help and Support, (if you see Dell on the Help and Support home page, you've got the overlay)you can get all the info and links provided by Solution Centre from there; the only thing missing would be the Alerts.Click start, Help and Support. For service tag, click the link 'Computer information' at the top of the list under Pick a help topic.

I'll post if I find something new on the matter.
Thanks for the reply.
