“Dell Support Center” software opens folder “C:\Program Files\Dell” on reboot

Hi, I hope somebody can help me with this little problem,

I have just installed the “Dell Support Center” software on my computer, now it causes the folder "C:\Program Files\Dell" to open every time I reboot my machine.

Any suggestions how this can be rectified?

Thanks in advance!

That's my exact problem too! Installed Dell Support Center three days ago on my Inspiron 600 laptop and have not been able to stop the same bootable path you post. I cannot even figure out how to uninstall it. I guess it just latches right into the registry and I have already done two system restores, and re-installed it.

Maybe Dell has the software on disk? Love the services, need the services. Help!

Folks,
On another thread that I have been monitoring it appears that a Dell Technician has provided a resolution to this problem.  Below is the post from TLC2 with the message:

I decided to give the new support center another try. The dell folder kept opening again. So I wrote to Dell technical support and got this response:

"There is a problem with the current version of Dell Support in that it is not
functioning properly by offering updates not required by customer systems and
leaving the same window open after startup that you are describing.

It is relatively harmless but it can be removed by using a tool called MSconfig:

1. Click the Start button, and then type 'msconfig' without the quotes in the
Run bar and press enter
2. The System Configuration Utility window will appear.
3. Click the Startup Tab and locate the entries for for Dell Support or
dsca.exe, remove the check marks from them. If you are not sure which entries to
remove then provide us with a screenshot and we will direct you to the correct
entries.
4. Click Apply at the bottom of the window. If you receive an error about
Administrator Privileges, just ignore it as the changes will be made anyway.
5. Restart the Computer.
6. The windows for the System Configuration Utility may appear again. Select No
in the box asking to show the configuration window at startup, and then click
Ok."

It worked! I now have the new support center and NO Dell folder opening on start up.

Wow!  I can't believe how easy it was to find the answer to that annoying folder loading in.  Exactly 2 clicks and I found what I was looking for.

A BIG THANKS to 250N for those instuctions on getting rid of that thing.  Actually a BIG thanks to everyone on here.  I never had any problems with my Dell until this week and yesterday I found this site.  And thanks to finding the info on this Dell community forum...I've fixed the 2 problems that have come up this week!

I'm wondering why I am keeping that Dell Support thingy anyway.....they are no help when it comes to searching for info because when "I" need help...it's usually NOT a simple thing.

This forum IS the greatest!  Thanks again EVERYONE!!!!

Thank you sooooo much 250N! I also logged on to the Forum because of this, did a search and saw your message listing the exact problem w/ the dsc install. I joined the cry for help, but as I logged on today, I found your sol to it.
I did these steps and of course it works like a charm. You're a godsend!

Thank you very much for your suggestions! but I think I may have solved the issue myself,

Here is what I did:

Start > Run

Type REGEDIT in Run Command Box

Navigate to the registry branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Locate the key dscactivate, which has the following Value Data:
C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exe

Double click the key dscactivate and place a double quotation mark at the beginning and at the end of the Value Data

Like so:
"C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exe"

Click OK and then exit REGEDIT

Finished! : )

Anyone delete support center? Any problems after delete?--this thing is worse then Norton antivirus when it comes to startup hogware.
Thanks
