"Dell support not working" message
"Dell support not working" is a message I am getting every few minutes on my screen - says windows is searching for a fix; I can close it or it closes itself, but it keeps recurring. What is it and how do I stop it? I rebooted, that has not fixed it. No idea what to do.

montyneill,
Try reading...
Uninstall Dell Support Center
Drivers and instructions to reinstall, it you want to install it. It's not a necessary program but does have some helpful tips and alerts.

Montyneill,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
It could have been disabled.
See if this will work for you :
Start > in the search box, type msconfig > press Enter key > uac prompt > Startup tab > scroll down to find Dell Support... , if there is no checkmark in front of it, then check it > OK

I am having the exact same experience. For the past 2-3 weeks, the "Dell support not working" dialog box has repeatedly appeared. Has any solution been found? I am using Vista.

I am having the same problem as Montyneill. This has been going on for 2-3 weeks. I have tried your solution but the 3 Dell boxes are checked. I am running Vista.
Thanks,

Also, I am using Windows7 - assume this will be true in Vista, but cannot say it will.

Per another respondent's suggestions, I deleted the program - I used the built-in windows program remover via the control panel. The message has not reappeared. Simple and easy (the 'repair' option that sometimes comes up in the removal process did not come up for this program). The same respondent suggested I could reinstall the program - is not necessary s/he said, but has some good hints. I took a quick look yesterday at the Dell support page, did find the program to reinstall when I first searched, no time to do more. Don't really care at this point.

Also using Win7 on Studio XPS7100. Same symptoms. Very annoying. Support Center will not open from system bar, hangs on manual startup then closes. Guessing the fault is linked to an update of Support Center 3.0? Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features showed an install od DSC 3.0 in late July 2011 (July 27 IIRC) Must have been an auto update. I uninstalled DSC (got error messages while uninstalling). Rebooted, etc. Was unable to reinstall, got error message during install "Error getting cert filename (Property:CustomActionData) from MSI:" Would be really nice to know which updates I need, which DSC was supposed to do, but it looks like Dell jumped the shark this time. Pity.
