dell7212 help
I bought a new in the box tablet Dell 7212 It has windows IOT 10. I don't have the product key. And neither does the person I bought it from. They were left over from a company that had bought 30. Mine is number 2 of 30. Anyway I cant activate windows. Can i just download and clean install of10 pro or 11 and use the new key to activate the new windows install? This tablet is brand new and is awsome. And I got it cheap so I don't mind spending a little money on it. Help please.

Is there a way to get the product key from the service tag from Dell
or in bios. The windows on this tablet has never beeb activated. Manufactured in 2019

You can always try. If the device has embedded license, a Windows installation USB created by Creation Tool can detect it and installing a matching version. If the installation process is asking to enter the key, the device does not have Win 10/11 embedded license, you may have to purchase a retail key for activation.

yes when i first booted it up it did ask for a key. i also did the wmic path get software license recommendation and nothing there. also tried through powershell and nothing so i dont think it is embedded. so can i just wipe the drive and install windows 10/11 ? fresh

or can i just purchase download and install right over iot and it will ask for the new producr key. or do have to delete iot completely and start with a blank hard drive

You can perform a clean install of the Windows version you preferred. Delete all partitions on the boot drive during the installation process. You can test run an unlicensed Windows for 30 days. If everything is running well as you expected, purchase a license key and activate it afterward.

Contact Dell Support with the tablet's serial number for assistance.
Perform a clean install of Windows 10 Pro or 11 using official ISO files and a valid key.
Check for an embedded key in the firmware using tools like "ShowKeyPlus."
