desktop problems/windows xp problems

Question

Over the past couple days my computer has been having some problems, more of them just annoying than anything. When there is a window up on my desktop, and then i drag it or move it to some other location, behind it, it shows the 'dragging' of where the window was moved to. Does this have something to do with a virus? It seems to do this a lot too, after I come back from my screensaver being on. I ran Norton yesterday and did a live update, 8 files were infected and then fixed or removed. I also have ad-ware, but everytime I have run it during the past 2 days, after it is done removing the files, my internet doesn't work. I finally was able to get my internet up and running again, but I had to restore the files from adware to do so, and I really don't want this spyware on my computer. Anyways, I also tried restoring my computer to a previous date, but every time i try to do it, it tells me that my computer cannot be restored to the previous date. Anyone know how to fix these problems??

As far as your restore points are concerned, since you had viruses at some time, it is probable that one or more of the restore fiules would contain that virus. If it will not let you restore to some point, it is likely that one or more restore point files hvae been corrupted. As they are sequential, if one does not work, then neither will any to a prior date.

Your best option is thereforr to disable system restore (which will delete all the restore points), restart the PC, then enable system restore again, which will make a fresh restore point. To diable, open system restore, click on system restore settings, check the box 'turn off system restore'. To enable it again after restart, uncheck that box.

As far as adaware is concerned, try letting it fix just one thing at a time and check whether your internet connection works or not. That way you might be able to track down which 'fix' is causing the problem. Please post any information, then maybe we can find another way. Alternatively, download and run HijackThis. Do not let it fix anything, but post its log on the virus renmoval board (you can see examples there).

Re: AdAware on XP There's a recent MS article on AdAware deleting some XP files so this may be relevant. I can't find this on their site. Maybe on lavasoftusa.

alright I will try that. Although do you know how to fix my 'dragging' problem I am having with windows on my desktop??? Do you think this has to do with adaware?
