desktop sql server on new dells

Bought new Dells for a client and was cleaning off the junk that'll just get them in trouble, why is Dell installing the desktop sql server on their lower end Dimensions? Is there another program on there that needs it?

I uninstalled
Corel photo album
Quickbooks
SBA
Google Desktop
AOl
Earthlink
Netzero
and a few others I don't remember the names of. Spent about 45 minutes per machine just cleaning it before starting to configure it for their network (about 15 machines).

It used to be you bought a Dell and all it had installed was Windows and Office, now they come pre-stuffed with junk you don't want and would prefer to have never been installed.

Two responses. 1 - They may get paid from AOL, Google, Earthlink +...+ to do it, which allows Dell to sell PCS very cheaply.  2 - I believe that if you bought the PCs from the the Small or Medium web site and no the Home/Home Office site you might not get then extras.

I just got a new Dell ... and it has SQL Server running though the icon says "Not Connected".

Um, not to sound like an idiot but ... what is it ... do I need it if I'm just a home user ... and is it ok to stop it loading in MSConfig?

Thanks!
