I have a Dimension XPS Gen 4 computer. This software updated something as I could see files being added or replaced when the program was run.
If it does nothing to a desktop computer, why do the instructions not say this? As far as SP2 is concerned, the release date of this software is 6/21/05 which is well after the release date of SP2. It makes no sense to state that it is designed only for computers that do not have SP2 installed. This would run contrary to MS's position of enforcing the installation of SP2.
"Desktop System Software (DSS) is a utility that provides critical updates and patches for your operating system. Install the DSS program to gain support for Dell 3.5-inch USB floppy drives, CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drives, and USB devices. DSS is necessary for correct operation of your Dell computer. DSS automatically detects your computer and operating system and installs the updates appropriate for your configuration."
"Dell recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains feature enhancements or changes that will help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software)."

If you have a desktop and windows xp sp2, it installs NOTHING.
If you have a laptop then it installs all the usb drivers, usb floppy drivers, and other system updates.

Quoting from the download page -

I read the download page prior to posting here. It is quite generic and really says nothing at all.
It especially does not say anything about excluding desktops or computers running SP2.
If you don't know the answer to my question, please don't make one up.
Thanks.
