You can't permanently disable processes through task manager. What processes are running that you want to disable?

The following processes are the ones I would like to end:

msmsgs.exe.exe; urlmap.exe; mspmspsv; nopdb.exe; nvsvc32.exe and ctsvccda.exe

(Not sure about upper case/lower case). I am just trying to tweak system a little bit for the leanest possible start.

Thanks.

I respectfully suggest that unless you have a real problem, you leave them alone, they take up little space and an unmeasurable amout of CPU resources.  As an example I have nvsvc32.exe running on my PC, and it has been was rebooted fives days ago nvsvc32.exe has used less than one second of CPU time in the past five days.  I am also running mspmspv.exe with the same effect.  I do not have the other four process on my computer.

Black Viper offers a wealth of information regarding this topic, including a description of each service and recommended methods of configuration. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

GM

P.S.: That first entry looks suspect. Is it really msmsgs.exe.exe? If not, I read the following:

Msmsgs Msmsgs.exe

(Microsoft) MSN Messenger Service tray application.

Recommendation :
Disable or Delete with  The Ultimate Troubleshooter  if you do not use the MSN Messenger Service. Alternatively, you can go into the "Tools \ Options \ Preferences" menu option within Messenger and uncheck "Run when Windows starts".

If you're reading the same pages that I am, they offer options to disable all of these services without requiring a third-party program. http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Here's the thing. I have already removed messenger as a program on my computer but the process msmsgs.exe is still running. There still seem to be some remnants when I go into windows explorer (Microsoft messenger is listed under programs with icon but not much in them. When I go to tools and then hit folder options, "do not load with windows is NOT an option I see.

I take that back. That option is selected -- and I did remove the program in control panel but there still seem to be folders left behind. Why would the process be running in task manager if I removed it. (Process is definitely msmsgs.exe). -- using 8140 k memory usage.

You might want to try this vbs script from Microsoft MVP Doug Knox to remove Windows Messenger.
