Dial-Up Internet Connection

For some unknown reason when I try to the connect to the Internet or email, the dial up box already has a password saved in it that is 16 digits long and I keep changing it, but the next time I try to log-on the same 16-digit password shows up and it's driving me crazy!!!  Why won't it save the information that I want it to and how did the 16-digit number get there in the first place!

I suspect it IS saving your password. Have you tried connecting with the 16 dots in the password box?

I think it is probably defaulting to show  a 16 digit password, even though you may only have 7 or 8 characters actually used. That is for security - whoever goes on to you machine will not even know how many characters your password has....

ARose,

Unlike earlier operating systems which replaced your password with asterisks (the same number as characters in the password) Windows XP replaces passwords of any length with 16 round bullets. It is an additional security feature which prevents an onlooker from knowing the length of your password. The system is saving the password you have entered.
