Difficulty with Outlook
Hello. I am having difficulty trying to get Outlook to run. What I did was download Microsoft's new beta version of Office. I noticed some peculiarities and decided to uninstall the software. Upon uninstalling the software, I noticed that my Outlook would not work and I was getting and error message that said...."Failed to register a VB Script DLL. Reinstall or run Regsvr32.exe Vbscript.dll to self register. The key 'DisplayName' is either missing or has an incorrect value. [File C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\forms\1033\SECREC(2).CFG, Section Description]"
I do not know what this means!!! At any rate, I cannot use Outlook and wish to do so. I wonder if the beta version of Office removed some files and I was unaware of that. I did re-install Windows XP and I still get this message. So, I give up!! I tried contacting Microsoft and they indicated that if the software comes installed on a computer from a computer manufacture sush as Dell then my obligation is to contact Dell. Quite honestly I am getting tired of this and and asking if anybody can give me a simple (basic military training type) explanation on how to remedy this problem.
Thanks to anybody in advance for reading this note and any help you can offer.

I'll try that! I did use the Control Panel add/delete program function to remove the Windows XP and then reinstalled it. I am guessing what you are suggesting is something different. I thought that by "cleaning out" the old version and putting it back in or reinstalling it, the software would work. But I am fatiguing with this issue and the vendors are really no help at all. I am woefully disappointed at both Dell and Microsoft. Somebody has to know how to fix this problem and they are not reachable!
Thanks for your time and thought.

Outlook, is part of MS Office. Beta software can and usually does cause other problems and should not be installed on a "working" PC.
However, it sounds like you will need to reinstall MS Office to get Outlook working. If you got MS Office with a new Dell PC, you should have also received the CD(s).

I just finished doing the repair and Outlook still won't launch. I am guessing I will have to buy another hard drive, put the operating system on that drive and copy my programs and their files one by one to the new hard drive then reformat the old hard drive. I just don't know any other way. The reinstalling and/or repair feature of the Windows XP CDs doesn't work or correct the problem.

Hi Everybody!!!
Eureka!!! I think I did it!!! I stayed with it and uninstalled then re-installed the XP operating system and now Outlook will let me get into it. I do however have mulitple Outlook files. But, I can now use the contacts and calender.
So, I have more work to do but I have learned my lesson. I am never..and I mean NEVER going to download a beta version of anything. I have also gained a distrust of Microsoft only for the reason that they are using folks as guinea pigs and I personally do not like that. But, it was my fault and I have paid the price!!!
Thanks to all who responded with help and offerings to assist me.
