digital camera driver

Hi,so i have windows xp with my dell dimension 2400 series.Kodak easyshare software does not install the driver for the cx 7525 camera. After using several troubleshooters and many web searches,i am left to suppose it is a problem concerning my computer.(both camera and software work on at least two other computers). The only decifering problem my device manager can say is that the drivers are not installed and that it needs to be reinstalled. The kodak software does not install this driver,i am led to believe it should already be in the xp software. However, all i get is Hardware wizard cannot find software,so how do get the camera to work?Maybe, somehow, the driver has been deleted??

Please help or my computer is going to learn how to fly!!!!!!lol
i have tried what i consider all possible solutions.
Thanks. kev g

What has probably happened is that you plugged in the camera before installing the driver. I suggest you uninstall the software and any device listed under imaging device in Device Manager. Make sure the camera is not connected, and reboot. Once everything is uninstalled, get your manual and go through the installation process carefully.

Install the software following the instructions. If you have not already done so, download new installation software from the Kodak update site here:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn029409.jhtml?pq-path=3058

At some point you will be prompted to plug the camera in. If your system has USB ports in the back and front, make sure you use a port in the back of your computer.

Ok,so that doesn't work either. When i came to connecting camera, the hardware install wizard came up,searched for software and couldn't find it.I then went back to device manager and it still tells me the driver is not installed.

Another slight hitch is that i cannot access any part of kodaks website,i do not have any problem connecting/downloading anywhere else.

The part i cannot grip,is that i can take the camera+cable to a family members computer, plug it in and transfer pictures-without loading any kodak software. What does come up is choose hardware install, thus we chose the scanner/camera preference and the camera started to transfer pictures, this all being done on windows xp .How come they can choose install and mine just gives one?

When you plug the camera in and the hardware wizard starts, it is supposed to locate the drive installed by the software. But let's try it a different way. Plug it in and cancel out of the wizard. With the camera still plugged in, open Device Manager and you should see an yellow exclamation point somewhere. Select that and right click, Properties. Click the driver tab, Update driver, then the wizard starts again. Select Install from a list or specific location, Next, Don't search, I will choose the driver, Next. At this point the wizard will just start looking for all relevant drivers. See if your camera is listed in the next window.

Otherwise, Google the driver and download it (and unzip if necessary). Then just follow the procedure above, but then you'll need to steer the wizard to the downloaded file.

No joy. When i selected the downloladed file, the ok box did not highlight,so i just clicked on anything in that list until the box highlighted, when i clicked a file i386,the box highlighted,so i ok'd it and the wizard found the software under imaging devices, but stopped and gave me the message:Files needed, file 'ptpusd.dll' on windows xp home edition Service pack 1 cd.

It asks me to type path where file is located.I do not have the cd,so i will try and search for one/or the file?

Ok, we're getting closer. I searched my C drive for that file, 'ptpusd.dll', and found five instances. So when you get the message that it can't find a file, do a search on your C drive for it, then you'll know where to tell Windows to find it.

Still no luck,i got hold of xp sp 1 thru download,so managed to find missing file, but it just kept on asking for more missing files(approx 5),when i completed this process,it said it was all installed under a sony usb driver?, i continued, restarted and as soon as i switched the camera on,it had a major breakdown-big blue screen and stop-i noticed the details referred to sony usb,so followed troubleshooter instructions which were to uninstall the offending driver. That now done,i also uninstalled kodak easyshare software and reinstalled-just to be safe.

I am now back to square one,no driver installed.

Would it be worth trying to completely reinstall xp altogether, cos im sure it is windows related and not the camera or software

I do appreciate all your help

Thanks   Kev g

If you're up to it, I see no downside to reinstalling XP. Just follow the reinstallation guide for your system (Support button above, Reinstallation guide).

All well and good now, reinstalled xp with the help of dell technical, after a failed attempt of my own.

Camera is now fully operational, programs now run better than ever(it cost me 40 quid though)

Once again thankyou very much for your help
